According to a recent study conducted by the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), there are only about 2 million users in the country actively (at least once a month) accessing Internet through their mobile phones and other mobile devices.

The association goes on suggesting that about 27% of all mobile phones - which translates into 127 million people - have an Internet-ready mobile device. Furthermore, out of this number, only 9.4% (12 million users) have used Internet over their mobile phones ever in this year. Finally, the number goes down to the mentioned 2 million or 17% when it comes to active users.

In terms of demographics, 70% of the mobile Internet active users are in the 18-35 year group. As for the services used, people mostly rely on chatting and social networking (60%), and conduct information search (23%).
